Rahn is a creal grain native to the Sansehn continent that provides the primary form of plant-based nutrition for people across Nalan. It's flowers are the source for Cartaca, a somewhat rare blue spice used in specialized dishes and medicines.
Description
A Rahn stalk stands at 1.5 to 2p tall and with yellow green coloration. This crop is notable for its hard shell-like carapace that closes during rapid drops in barometric pressure and if the stalk is jostled too quickly. It consists of five primary components: the stalk, the carapace, the grain, and the leafy fernlike extensions.
Ecology
Rahn plants are generally only found near deserts, and only if its local region has an Elder Tree present to provide the enhanced nutrition and energy allocation required for large fields. Dansali are credited with cultivating and domesticating the plant and are believed to have done so for thousands of years.
Gigor are a common species of rodent that cohabits lands planted with Rahn.
